JULIUS BERGER NIGERIA PLC WINS NIGERIA’S 2022 HIGHEST DIVIDEND GROWTH AWARD AT 25TH PEARL AWARDS IN LAGOS

Nigeria’s foremost engineering construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, has won the award as the company with the ‘Highest Dividend Growth’ in the country’s stock market for the business year 2022.

The meritorious award which is strictly based on objective facts and figures already in the public domain through the Securities and Exchange Commission, was given to Julius Berger at the 2022 Pearl Awards ceremony which held at the iconic Eko Hotels in Nigeria’s business and financial hub, Victoria Island, Lagos. This year’s awards is themed ‘Sustaining Excellence through Tenacity.’ According to the Nigerian Stock Market Annual [NSMA], which was presented to stakeholders and the very distinguished guests at the ceremony, the 2022 Pearl awards criteria and methodology is based on nine distinct criteria. These include turnover growth, earnings yield, returns on equity, dividend yield, dividend growth, dividend cover, net asset ratio, profit margin ratio; and share price appreciation. Julius Berger Nigeria Plc won in the Market Excellence Awards category, where each award is made in recognition of entire market leadership in respect of the indices listed above.

This growth strategy was recently highlighted and celebrated at the company’s well-attended and widely reported Investor Relations Forum by the Managing Director, Engr. Delta monarch, Okpe Union officials fight dirty

25th November, 2022.

*From the National Secretariat of the Okpe Union.*

*UPDATES ON THE LAW SUIT AND MOTIONS IN COURT FOR THE AUTONOMY OF THE OKPE UNION.*

The President General of the Okpe Union, Prof. Igho Natufe has directed that the National Secretariat of the Okpe Union issues the following updates to the various branches and members of the Union concerning the law suit and motions in courts aimed at protecting the autonomy of the Okpe Union.

  1. The substantive suit instituted on behalf of the elected National Executive Council of the Okpe Union in April, 2022 at the Federal High Court, Lagos has its judgment fixed for the 9th of December, 2022. In the same vein, hearing of the motion at the Federal High Court, Abuja, for the vacation of the Order of that Court which empowered the appointment of trustees for the Okpe Union by the Imposed Interim Committee is fixed by the Court for the 28th of November, 2022.

  1. The summary of what is before the courts in the above two cases is whether a Traditional Ruler in Nigeria can dissolve the elected executive leadership of a registered organisation under the Corporate Affairs Commission and impose another leadership against the provisions of the constitution of the organisation and its history of democratic transfer of leadership.

  1. It is our hope that if the above two legal actions are positive, the position that the Okpe Union is an autonomous organisation as envisioned by its founding fathers for the protection of the interests of the average Okpe man and woman shall be maintained. Every step that has been taken previously to undermine the autonomy of the Okpe Union including the recent plans to illegally  arrange a kangaroo election to counter the elected National Executive Council would be known to the Okpe Nation and the whole world as a nullity.

  1. The National Executive Council led by Prof Igho Natufe which delegates of the various branches of the Okpe Union freely elected on the 15th of May 2021 remains poised to implement its electoral promises of making the Okpe Union vibrant and proactive again.

Okowa mourns former Delta lawmaker, Michael Ogwilaya

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta and Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has commiserated with the Ogwilaya family and people of Emevor over the passing of one of the pioneer members of Delta House of Assembly, Hon. Michael Ogwilaya.

The late Ogwilaya, who represented the defunct Isoko North Constituency II between 1992 and 1993, died at 70 after a brief illness. Until his passing, he was a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta.

In a condolence message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, Okowa expressed sadness at the passing of Ogwilaya, and said that the incident was a big loss to the deceased’s family, the PDP and Emevor community.

According to him, the passing of the PDP chieftain is a big blow to our party, his family, Emevor community and Isoko North, especially at this period, and considering his immense contributions to the party’s fortunes in the state.

The governor remarked that the late “gentleman-politician”, contributed to the growth and development of his community and local government area, and that he would be greatly missed by his political associates and others close to him.

He said: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I mourn the passing of an astute politician and a gentleman of amiable personality.

“Michael Omokaro Ogwilaya was a renowned party leader, a man of peace who was passionate about the development of his people of Emevor and Isoko North.

“The news of his death was shocking and a great loss because he was a valued asset to PDP and had distinguished himself in the service of the party and his people.

“His huge contributions to our party’s victories in several elections in Emevor and Isoko North remain laudable”.

Okowa prayed to God to accept the deceased’s soul and grant fortitude to the family and friends to bear his demise.

Atiku’ll tackle insecurity with job creation – Aniagwu

Peoples Democratic Party PDP Presidential Campaign Spokesman, Mr Charles Aniagwu says the party’s Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar would in addition to other measures create jobs to solve the perennial insecurity and poverty bedevilling Nigeria.

Aniagwu who spoke on Arise Television on Saturday said until jobs were created in the country, insecurity would continue to fester.

He stressed that without jobs it would be impossible to solve the hydra-headed insecurity with its attendant effect on the nation’s socio-economic landscape.

“Earlier today in Lagos, our Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa had a successful dialogue with Corporate Nigeria with the great investors like Africa’s greatest industrialist Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Jim Ovia, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Herbert Wigwe and many others in attendance.

“The discussion centered mainly on the economic issues like job creation and how to ensure that a number of comatose industries are brought back to life and to recover our country from where we are now.

“Atiku believes that not until we are able to bring back the jobs the issue of insecurity will remain a challenge.

“He was also able to deal with a number of interwoven factors of how to address the security challenge with a view to ensuring that the economy becomes more robust.

“All of these issues he wants to address to be able to recover our country are well encapsulated in five thematic areas in his policy document ‘My Covenant With Nigerians’.

“Beyond that, we have made it clear that Atiku will continue to engage with different segments and sectors of our society and today’s engagement is one of such arrangements believing that this document cannot be exhaustive,” Aniagwu said.

He said Atiku would run an administration that would support a free-market economy which will involve the stakeholders in the private sector, adding that the PDP led government would tackle the causative factors making Nigerians to navigate towards the dollar.

“He will ensure that Nigeria’s education is sector is developed such that Nigerians would no longer find it attractive to source for dollar to pay school fees abroad.

“Atiku will also improve on the health sector such that funds spent on medical tourism would be a thing of the past.

“Once the causative factors are addressed, the dollar will automatically take the back seat because the naira can only be stable by stimulating productivity among the different sectors of the economy.

“The discussions today also centred on what he is going to do to bring back the jobs, to recover the economy and to ensure that we begin to have value for our naira, productivity and many other things that could help revive the industries,” Aniagwu stated.

God behind our successes in Delta – Okowa

Delta Governor and Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has attributed successes recorded by his administration, including prevailing peace in the state, to the praying culture introduced by his regime.

He stated this in his remarks at the National Hymn Festival 2022 at the University of Lagos, on Saturday.

Okowa disclosed that prayers had helped tremendously in stabilizing the state and made the sustenance of peace in the state possible.

He said that aside the daily supplications to God at the Government House Chapel and other religious activities in the state, his administration ensured that May 29 (Democracy Day) every year was dedicated to prayers and Thanksgiving to God, since 2015.

The governor expressed the hope that his successor would sustain the culture to ensure that peace and prosperity reigned in the state.

He commended authorities of University of Lagos for collaborating with the organisers of the festival and sued for its sustenance.

He urged the people to pray for Nigeria and its people for unity and peace, especially as the country prepared for 2023 general elections.

Highpoint of the event was an Award to the governor by the organisers for his contributions to the growth of the Church in Nigeria and for his outstanding performance in Delta.

Other awardees were the Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola and her predecessor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe

Foremost engineering construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, has assured the Federal Government over the quality of work to be done on the Phase 1 section of the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

Managing Director of the company, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter who was represented at the flag-off of rehabilitation works on the first Phase of the secretariat by Regional Manager for Abuja Operations, Engr. Oliver Berger in a short speech said the Federal Secretariat was first built by Julius Berger decades ago and has stood the test of time. “It might interest you to know that this building, the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase 1, for which we have been awarded a contract to rehabilitate, is one of our company’s proud legacies”, he said, adding that, “our company’s relationship with the Federal Secretariat Complex dates back over three decades. Oliver Berger recalled that “On January 22, 1990, Julius Berger was given the contract to build the Federal Secretariat, and we are proud to say that the building’s structure is still strong to this day, making it a point of reference for quality construction.”

He further said the rehabilitation work will bring the building back to its former glory “and infuse it with an impressive touch of modernity”. The main work, he continued, “is fixing up the wet areas, which include tearing down and replacing all the plumbing components, tiles, partitioning walls, ceilings and all the pipes and cables for the mechanical and electrical systems”. Other aspects of the rehabilitation works to be effected by Julius Berger include repairing the roof by replacing the old felting that has reached the end of its life span; installing a new booster station with pumps to serve the entire building, rehabilitation works on the lighting, aluminium vents, natural stone flooring, glass panels and painting. “The building’s two lifts will be replaced with new ones, while the emergency stair cases will be upgraded for easier and safer exit. The 10th and 11th floors which were damaged by fire a while ago will now undergo renovations”, Oliver Berger said.

On fears of disruptions to the daily work of Government in the Federal Secretariat, he said, “…as it is our usual tradition at Julius Berger, working seamlessly on an operating site, we have come up with a plan to fix up this building without getting in the way of the officials who work there. Along with doing our work in phases and weekends, one notable intervention is giving the client portable toilets to use while the wet areas are being fixed”. He assured that the company will in conjunction with the users of the building ensure that all works are carried out successfully, while still providing comfort to the civil servants at work.

The Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, who flagged off the rehabilitation on Tuesday at the complex, described the exercise as a milestone in the efforts of the FCTA to rehabilitate public buildings and infrastructure in the Nation’s capital. He said that the secretariat complex, like many other public buildings in the FCT, was constructed 30 years ago and hence require rehabilitation adding that the exercise came as a result of several discussions with the Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Mrs. Folashade Esan, who was passionate about providing a conducive working environment for civil servants.

Speaking on funding, the Honourable Minister said the budgetary provisions were a constraint and called for serious efforts to ensure adequate funding. He also frowned at the level of abuse on public buildings in the FCT and called for reforms in the existing procurement system for the maintenance of public facilities.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Folashade Esan, commended the FCTA for working to ensure that the environment where civil servants spend most of their time was conducive, noting that the rehabilitation would come with increased productivity. She added, “I am glad that the FCT with the FCDA, alongside Julius Berger is working to make sure that the environment is very conducive for civil servants. I am also looking forward to the end of this rehabilitation”.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad explained that the Federal Executive Council, after due process, graciously approved the award of the Phase 1 of the contract to Messrs. Julius Berger Nigeria Plc with completion period of 24 months. He added that the rehabilitation work would be carried out in phases to ensure that government activities are not paralyzed as the works are being executed.

IN NIAMEY, AFRICAN LEADERS SHARE TESTIMONIES ON PRESIDENT BUHARI’S STERLING LEADERSHIP QUALITIES

  • GUINEA BISSAU PRESIDENT: WITHOUT BUHARI, I WOULDN’T HAVE BECOME PRESIDENT
  • OIL MOGUL, INDIMI, DONATES 1000 COPIES OF BUHARI’S BIOGRAPHY TO AU SUMMIT DELEGATES

African leaders, who attended the launch of the French version of the book entitled ‘‘Muhammadu Buhari: the Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria’’, in Niamey on Thursday, have shared glowing testimonies on the leadership qualities of the Nigerian leader.

President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger Republic, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea Bissau, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, Head of the Transition Military Council and President of Chad, and former President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou gave speeches at the launch of the French version of President Buhari’s biography authored by John Paden, a Professor of International Studies at George Mason University, northern Virginia, United States.

The event took place at the margins of the African Union Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification, as well as the Extraordinary Session on African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), running from November 20 to 25, 2022 in the capital city of Niger Republic.

Shortly after his arrival in Niamey, President Buhari had earlier inaugurated a 3.8km and 160m wide Boulevard named after him by the Government of the Republic of Niger.

Speaking at the book launch, the President of Niger described the Nigerian leader as ‘‘an austere man, uncompromising, humble man, an ardent patriot and a committed democrat.’’

‘‘Professor John Paden, you were well inspired to have chosen to write about the life and work of an exceptional man. I commend your work for being comprehensive, objective, and for shedding new light on the personality of the patriot, the courageous military man, and the conscientious politician that is President Muhammadu Buhari.

‘‘Nigeria is Niger’s main trading partner. It is therefore normal for any Nigerien politician to follow the evolution of political life in Nigeria. That is why I have closely followed Muhammadu Buhari’s political struggles, especially his participation in the presidential elections from 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.

Bazoum disclosed that the fight against Boko Haram being waged together with Nigeria and other neighbouring countries in the Lake Chad Basin has allowed him to discover the strategist and statesman in Buhari, who is ‘‘determined to ensure peace for his country and the sub-region.’’

‘‘His fight against corruption and for good governance has earned him the esteem of all. It is a pleasure to work with a man of conviction like him.

‘‘I am sure that those who read the book will not fail to draw useful lessons for their political or professional careers. They will not fail to learn life lessons at all. This book will certainly educate the younger generation,’’ he said.

Embalo, who is also the current chairman of ECOWAS, told guests at the event that his father was equally called Muhammadu and was born the same year as Muhammadu Buhari.

‘‘I just want to emphasize that there is a reciprocating affection for this man. Today l am the President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, firstly it is God and secondly it is this man, Baba. Thank you very much,’’ the Guinea Bissau leader said.

He added that the book is a portrait of a great African leader, saying:

‘‘I pay homage to President Buhari for his patriotism and commitment in maintaining peace in our sub-region.

‘‘We have an Avenue in Guinea Bissau bearing Buhari’s name since a year ago. Baba, as I fondly call him, is a mentor, always available to offer solutions. Baba is a tireless artisan in the maintenance of peace and solidarity in the sub-region.’’

On his part, the President of Chad described President Buhari as a very experienced man with a great dream for Nigeria and a clear vision for Africa.

‘‘President Buhari brings a heritage and a source of knowledge for us all. Thank you for this inestimable gift, Mr President.

‘‘President Buhari is undoubtedly an icon whose role and action makes the African voice to be heard in the world. He has always contributed to development in Africa by protecting and defending Africa and Africans. You are undoubtedly a model. You taught us perseverance in politics.

‘‘As a major actor in fight against terrorists and trans-border insecurity especially in the Lake Tchad region where Boko haram is, I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the relations between my country Tchad and Nigeria and to President Buhari for his availability especially in difficult times,’’ he said.

Issoufou, the immediate past President of Niger, praised the incumbent for launching the French version of the book, whose idea was conceived during his tenure as President.

He recounted that he graced the launch of the English version of the book in 2016 in Abuja, commending the author for documenting the life ‘‘of an exceptional man.’’

‘‘As a military head of state, his primary preoccupation was fighting corruption, and even now as a democratic president, he is a leader who knows the close links between security, democracy and development.

‘‘His fight against Boko Haram, organised crimes and corruption are notable. Part of his priorities include education and health development, climate change, democratic transition.

‘‘I agree with John Paden to state that Buhari is known for patience, honour, faithfulness and sense of duty. These helped him rule Nigeria differently from a military leader.

‘‘He is Mr Dignity and Mr Truth as he’s called and a sincere friend of Niger,’’ the former President said.

One of the book reviewers, Prof Abdallah Adamu, former Vice Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) said President Buhari has rightly earned the name ‘‘Mai gaskiya’’, which is translated to mean, “someone who keeps his words”.

He added that the author, John Paden, has fairly provided a biography of the current Nigerian President where he exposed the qualities of President Buhari that may not be known to many.

‘‘The author is very much qualified to give an account of President Buhari, having been involved in Nigerian politics in the 1970s and 80s,’’ he said.

Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, recounted the role played by the President’s nephew, Mamman Daura, in the publication of the book, describing him as the initiator and driving force.

‘‘It is a book on the personality, character, content of President Buhari, what he stood for and what he still stands for,’’ Sirika said.

Sirika and three other Nigerians, Mohammed Indimi, Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources (OER), Sayyu Dantata, Chief Executive Officer, MRS Holdings Limited and Farouk Adamu Aliyu, a chieftain of the All Progressives received awards from the President of Niger for their roles in fostering excellent bilateral relations between Nigeria and Niger.

Oil mogul Indimi donated 1000 free copies of the book to AU Summit delegates in Niamey.

The President of the Niger National Assembly, Seini Oumarou, Prime Minister, Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou, the High Representative of the President of the Republic of Niger, Foumakoye Gado and the Presidents of the Institutions of the Republic were also present at this ceremony.

MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO COMBAT MULTIPLICITY OF THREATS IN WEST AFRICA: PRESIDENT BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for greater cooperation among neighbouring countries with Nigeria to better combat escalating volatilities and multiplicity of threats across West Africa and the Sahel.

The President was speaking on Thursday in Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic, at the launch of the French version of his biography, Muhammadu Buhari: the Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria, after inaugurating a 3.8km length and 160m wide Boulevard named after him by the Government of Niger Republic.

‘‘My remarks will not be complete if I did not mention the escalating volatilities and multiplicity of threats across our region of West Africa and the Sahel.

‘‘The ever-evolving nature of the threats we face underlines the need for enhanced coordination. There is no doubt that we have made incremental progress in our collective fight against terrorism and other trans-border crimes.

‘‘However, a lot remains to be done, especially in the face of renewed efforts by violent extremist groups to expand their operations and footholds in West Africa,’’ the President said at the book launch attended by President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger Republic, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea Bissau as well as the current Chairman of ECOWAS, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, Head of the Transition Military Council and President of Chad, and former President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou.

Expressing the belief that ending terrorism and trans-border crimes in the region is achievable, President Buhari reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to bilateral as well as multilateral initiatives, with neighbouring partners such as Niger, Chad and Cameroun, toward realising this objective.

On the launch of the French version of his biography, the President said it was his fervent hope that it ‘‘would serve as a clarion call to emerging leaders across Africa, and inspire them to always be guided by the core values of hard work, integrity and patriotism.’’

He added that the lessons from the book should spur leaders to also work in accordance with the rule of law and constitutional constraints.

The Nigerian leader thanked President Bazoum for the honour bestowed on six Nigerians in August of this year, in recognition of their roles in strengthening the bonds between the two nations.

He described the relationship between Nigeria and Niger as a true one, characterized by shared history, values and tradition.

‘‘No wonder our people are able to coexist peacefully across our shared border, which spans over 1500 kilometres, and we remain the best of brothers and neighbours.

‘‘It gives me great pleasure to note that President Bazoum has taken active steps to consolidate those fraternal bonds since assuming leadership in April last year.

‘‘Mr. President has undoubtedly championed the expansion of frontiers of cooperation between our two countries and fostered an environment of mutual trust, further underscoring the importance that Niger attaches to the strategic nature of our relations.

‘‘It is within this context that I find it auspicious that Mr. President dedicated time and resources to translate into the French language, a book chronicling my modest life,’’ he said.

President Buhari also commended former President Issoufou for initiating the project and the incumbent for seeing to its completion and launching it.

‘‘There is no greater honour than when one’s life is considered worthy of emulation.

‘‘Your kindness translated through this gesture, is a further testament to the affinity that exists between our two peoples since time immemorial,’’ he said, expressing deep appreciation to the Nigerien President ‘‘for the enviable honour’’ bestowed on him in a profound way.

The book reviewer was Prof Abdallah Adamu, former Vice Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

At the occasion, the President of Niger decorated four Nigerians for their roles in fostering excellent bilateral relations between both countries.

They are Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, Mohammed Indimi, Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources (OER), Sayyu Dantata, Chief Executive Officer, MRS Holdings Limited and Aliyu Farouk, APC chieftain.

PRESS RELEASE

LAGOS RECORDS LOWEST ROBBERY INCIDENTS IN DECADES

…Sanwo-Olu: ‘LSSTF model largely successful, its triumphs justify donors’ confidence’

…149 robberies foiled by police, cache of arms recovered

For the third consecutive year, Lagos State has recorded no single case of armed robbery attacks on banks and other financial institutions operating within its boundary. The development hinted a significant improvement in security surveillance and the sustainability of measures adopted in checking organised crimes.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, shared the progress with stakeholders in the security circle and private sector donors at the 16th Town Hall Meeting on security organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) at Civic Centre in Victoria Island.

Sanwo-Olu said his administration adopted a technology-driven strategy that enabled the security agencies respond proactively ahead of potential breaches at vulnerable spots, including a web of undercover operations to frustrate armed attacks on possible targets. This, he said, has bolstered the confidence of the financial institutions to freely move their cash around the State with limited risks.

The Governor said the collaborative security approach had yielded significant results in crime fighting, leading to a sharp reduction in rate of criminality across Lagos.

In the last 12 months, the State recorded only 21 incidents of armed robbery – the lowest rate in the last decades. From last year November till date, the police and combined team of security agencies have foiled 149 armed robbery attempts across communities.

Sanwo-Olu said the State had not only boosted the morale of the security personnel with constant training and provision of equipment, but had also raised its capacity to contain emerging threats.

He said: “As a Government, our approach to security is holistic and collaborative. Our security policy is driven by the need to engender a wholly secure environment that enables the wellbeing, prosperity and fulfilment of all the residents. We consider no amount of investment too big to be put forward in ensuring the progress we have achieved since inception is sustained. In the last three and a half years, we have continued to maintain the record of zero incident of robbery attack on banks or any other financial institution operating in our State.

“LSSTF has been at the forefront of these security efforts. Through the agency, we have continued to provide interventions to the police and other security agencies operating in Lagos in the areas that include operational capacity, training and logistics. Our efforts have yielded encouraging results in crime fighting, as Lagos remains largely safe for business and living. This relative peace and safety that we have been experiencing in this massive mega city will not be compromised. We will continue to strengthen the security operation to ensure the progress recorded is not reversed.”

Next week, the Governor said Divisional Police formations will get 25 new pick-up trucks to assist in quick response to security threats in their areas of operation.

Sanwo-Olu said the State Government’s intention to employ digital surveillance in combating emerging crimes had started to take shape, given the phased rollout of technology tools, including high-definition cameras to monitor strategic locations across the State.

The Governor sent a loud warning to criminals still operating in Lagos to vacate the State before the law caught up with them. He pledged not to spare any effort in making the State unsafe and inhabitable for criminals.

Provision of security, Sanwo-Olu said, should not be seen as a one-way process, urging residents to collaborate and provide information to security agencies whenever they notice suspicious activities within their communities.

He said: “I am sending a strong and loud message to all purveyors of crime and criminality in Lagos. We will stay ahead of your intentions and actions, and we will fight you with everything we have. There will be no room for actions that undermine our well-being and our capacity to achieve our dreams and aspirations.”

The Governor said the LSSTF model adopted by the State in raising security standards had been effective, urging private sector donors to contribute their quota for the sustainability of the Fund.

LSSTF Executive Secretary, Dr. Abdur -Razaq Balogun, noted that the constraints necessitating the establishment of the Fund were far from being fully addressed, but said there was no alternative to the resource model in scaling up security response.

Since 2019, Balogun said LSSTF had provided 240 units of fully equipped operational vehicles to all security agencies in Lagos, in addition to provision of 230 units of motorbikes and security accessories, including 100 digital walkie-talkie, 167 cellular communication gadgets, 2,000 units of Level 4 bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets, among others.

Despite the successes achieved in the year, the LSSTF boss said the Fund had received the lowest public donation to the tune of N153 million, representing 6.3 per cent of public donations received in 2021.

Appealing for more funding from the private sector, Balogun said: “The necessity for crime-fighting agencies is continuous, as we must accept that crimes are still with us. As this is an election period, political violence is another clear danger we are facing. There is need to raise the capabilities of our security agencies to contain these threats as we approach general elections.”

Reviewing of crime report between November 2021 till date, Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, said Lagos Police Command arrested 146 armed robbers in 149 foiled attempts. In the same year, Lagos recorded 52 cases of cultism-related attack, with 240 suspected cultists arrested and charged.

The police chief disclosed that 89 high-grade arms and 376 assorted ammunitions were recovered, while 280 dangerous weapons, including cudgels, were seized from criminals.

Alabi said: “In the period under review, Lagos Police Command recorded a remarkable feat in crime fighting when we began checkmating the activities of commercial motorcycle riders, following Mr. Governor’s proscription of Okada in the State. Crimes being committed using motorcycles have reduced. Out of 8,105 Okadas we impounded from last year, 4,815 were seized between June and September 2022.”

The Commissioner appreciated the Governor for material and logistic support rendered to the State Police Command, assuring that his men would not rest on their oars towards ensuring peace and safety in Lagos.

Ibrahim noted that considering the terrain of the riverine communities in Ondo South senatorial district, the INEC officials who travel on the sea to perform their duties in the communities were really patriotic.

He noted that INEC could have raised different excuses to avoid going to most of the island communities in the district during election period.

According to him, “Today, I must commend INEC officials for coming to the communities in Ese-Odo Local Government to conduct electoral exercise.

” It’s not easy to travel on water for two hours in the name of performing official duties as electoral officers during the election period.

“I marvelled at the rate of waves and the way speed boats manoeuvre on the sea while sailing and the level at which the are prone to common mishap in the terrain.

“It is worthy of commendation and definitely all officers sent to our riverine communities by INEC are truly patriotic.

” We must all join hands to support INEC before, during and after the election to make the exercise worthwhile.”

Okowa urges youths to leverage on govt training programmes to unlock potentials

Delta Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Thursday, charged youths in the state to leverage on the opportunities provided by the state government to acquire vocational skills that would unlock their potentials in life.

Okowa who is the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), gave the charge while flagging off the third cycle of the Rural Youth Skills Acquisition (RYSA) programme at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp at Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government ( SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, the governor disclosed that, RYSA like other state government’s empowerment programmes, had been strategically designed to tackle the problem of youth unemployment in rural communities with a view to checkmating rural-urban drift.

He said the inauguration of RYSA was a testament of his administration’s quest to continue to provide opportunities for youths in the state to explore their potentials so as to enable them become self employed and wealth creators in a globally competitive business environment.

According to him, RYSA comprises of two components which he listed to include the hands-on skills training aimed at upscaling the vocational skill of participants and the community business school which focuses on life skills, mindset change, leadership and business management skills development necessary for participants to become successful enterprenuers.

While saying that three participants from each of the 270 electoral wards in the state were drawn into the third cycle of RYSA making it a total of 810 participants, Governor Okowa encouraged the participants to emulate their predecessors by taking the training with utmost sense of seriousness and responsibilitiy.

“Today’s event is a testament of our administration’s quest to continually provide opportunities for youths in the state to be self employed and wealth creators.

“Like all our empowerment programmes such as Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP); Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP); Women Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme (WESAP) and the Girls Entrepreneurship and Skills Training (GEST) Programme, the Rural Youth Skills Acquisition Programme have been strategically planned and designed to tackle the problem of youth unemployment in our rural communities to curb rural-urban drift.

“The focus of RYSA is to concentrate efforts at developing youth entrepreneurs in rural communities who will stimulate the growth and development of businesses in their immediate communities,” the governor said.

He, therefore, commended the management and staff of Ministry of Youth Development for ensuring that each of the cycles of the RYSA programme was successful.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga urged the trainees to be good ambassadors of the training programme by making a difference in words and action to enable them actualize their dreams.

Comrade Egwunyenga said the training would expose the participants to a lot of new ideas that would enable them to contribute their quota to the local economy and the stronger Delta agenda.

“I wish to reiterate the State Government’s willingness to ensure that you get the best from this training Programme and we believe in your potentials and trust that, as participants in the programme, your skills will be sharpened and your knowledge of business management greatly improved.

“However, you must also keep to your own end of the bargain by being disciplined throughout the training duration and pay attention to details, that is the only way you can get the best of the training programme.

“It is crucial to emphasize that by studying properly and working hard, you set a good example for other youngsters who might eventually apply for the programme.

“You must, therefore, be determined to be good ambassadors of the programme and truly make a difference in words and action,” Egwuyenga stated.

“JULIUS BERGER STILL THE MOST RELIABLE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY IN NIGERIA; PAY THEM THEIR MONEY AND THEY GET THE JOB DONE WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS”

“JULIUS BERGER STILL THE MOST RELIABLE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY IN NIGERIA; PAY THEM THEIR MONEY AND THEY GET THE JOB DONE WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS”

  • Former Governor of Edo State and ex-Chairman of APC, His Excellency, Comrade Adams Oshiomole

Nigeria’s leading engineering construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, meritoriously acclaimed as the country’s most reliable partner for infrastructural and building construction services, has again been adjudged “…the most reliable construction company in Nigeria”. This was the emphatic submission of the former Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Comrade Adams Oshiomole who was also a former Chairman of the country’s ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Adams Oshiomole made the assertion in Port Harcourt the Rivers State Capital where Julius Berger’s technical signature of excellence and commanding engineering brilliance eloquently tells the worthy story of the company’s matchless operational strength, contractual commitment, progressive loyalty to besting its own leading records of reliability as the nation’s contractor of choice for durable infrastructures and building construction. The former Edo State Governor, made the remarks when, as special guest of honour of the Rivers State Government, he commissioned the eight flyover built by Julius Berger in the Rivers State capital, the Rumuepirikom flyover bridge at the Rumuepirikom roundabout in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

At the ceremony, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, celebrated and thanked Julius Berger for its committed professional partnership with the State Government for the development of critically needed infrastructure in the State for the beneficial use of the Rivers people and, indeed, Nigerians.

Speaking at the event in Port Harcourt, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter said that the contract for the construction of the Rumuepirikom flyover was awarded to the company on the 6th day of May, 2021 with a completion period of twelve months. The project, Richter emphasized, was completed as contracted even as it was achieved with ‘good quality.’ Richter thanked the community which had to endure “huge inconveniences” during the construction period. He commended the community for its peaceful and very kind cooperation while the construction works lasted. Very significantly, the Managing Director singled out Governor Wike for appreciation particularly for his consistent moral and financial support to the company throughout the construction of the flyover, which led to the successful delivery of the project.

Comrade Oshiomole, later in reference to the Julius Berger Managing Director’s remarks by which Engr. Dr. Lars Richter commended and thanked Governor Wike for his moral and financial support to the company for the success of the project, got the large audience roaring with meaningful laughter when with good-natured chuckle he asserted that “to achieve this type of great and qualitative infrastructure that is visible in Port Harcourt for all of us to see, Julius Berger does not need moral support…Just pay them their money and they get the job done with excellent results; they remain matchless in terms of contractual performance, engineering competence and technical quality”. Oshiomole also commended and congratulated the Rivers State Government for its wisdom and prudence in subscribing to the proven and lasting Julius Berger quality and impeccable engineering standards in its execution of serious infrastructural works in the State.

Earlier during the festival of projects commissioning, the Sir Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, also built by Julius Berger and equipped by General Electric, was also commissioned by the Rivers State Government. His Royal Highness, Ado Bayero, CFR, the Emir of Kado, was the Special Guest of Honour at the commissioning of the hospital.

Governor Wike used the event to celebrate the historical cooperation between the Kano emirate and the Rivers people. The highly respected Emir prayed for the continuation of the special relationship between the Kano and Rivers people.

Engr. Dr. Richter in his remarks at the ceremony also thanked Governor Wike for the trust reposed in Julius Berger to handle the project which is a pioneering initiative in Nigeria in many significant ways. , He described the Centre in Port Harcourt as “a state of the art and modern medical facility specialized to deliver high level diagnosis and treatment for chronic diseases in Nigeria”, adding that “the hospital is designed specifically as a cancer treatment facility, featuring advanced healthcare services such as chemotherapy and nuclear medicine.” Dr Richter asserted that the hospital will serve as both a catalyst and inspiration as well as a new standard for the development of essential healthcare solutions in Nigeria. Richter added that the Centre would turn Rivers State to a new medical tourism destination.

The Sir Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in Port Harcourt consists of a fully equipped chemotherapy ward, a dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Critical Care Unit (CCU) patient wards and private isolation bed areas. It also consist of a pathology laboratory, radiology department with both MRI and CT Scanning facilities, doctors’ consulting rooms, a pharmacy and a restaurant and coffee shop facility for patient and visitor refreshment. Richter said all of the above facilities were conceived by the Rivers State Government, and built by Julius Berger to alleviate human suffering and provide next level health care to Nigerians and the international community in Nigeria. On behalf of the Board and executive management, Dr Richter  commended and thanked Governor Wike for his foresight and vision which birthed the ‘momentous project’ now delivered by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

The 9th flyover bridge, the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover for which contract was awarded to Julius Berger on Monday, 22nd February, 2022, was contracted for delivery in 12 months. At the Contract signing ceremony in Port Harcourt, the Julius Berger MD, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter, with palpable professional confidence, had assured Governor Wike and the people of Rivers State that, with the strong commitment of the client, the 9th flyover would also be successfully delivered as scheduled and to the highest technical standard, “the Julius Berger standard.” Within the planned contract schedule, Julius Berger operationally worked and delivered the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover and it was commissioned by the Rivers State Government on Thursday, 17th November, 2022. As the Rivers State Government and people celebrated the commissioning of the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyover bridge with the Special Guest of Honour, Mr. Peter Obi, Dr. Lars Richter again thanked Governor Wike for giving Julius Berger the opportunity of being its preferred technical partner for the huge infrastructural transformation and urban renewal of Rivers State, particularly Port Harcourt. Engr. Dr. Richter also thanked the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo community for its peaceful and helpful cooperation and support throughout the construction of the project.

Another Julius Berger constructed road project, the Mgbuitanwo internal road project in Emohua local government area was also commissioned on Monday 21st November 2022 in Rivers State. The former Governor of Kano State and former Minister of Defence, His Excellency, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso, a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) was the Special Guest of Honour at the event in Mgbuitanwo in Rivers State.

Dignitaries at the commissioning ceremonies in Port Harcourt also included the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo, DSSRS; members of the State Executive Council; the Honourable Speaker and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the Chairman and members of the Rivers State Council of Chiefs; Rivers State Women, Youths and cultural organizations as well members of the Press.

The Julius Berger delegation to the ceremonies was led by the company’s Managing Director, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter. Juergen Fischer, Project Coordinator, South-south/South-east Chief Sam Ngbor; Special Project Manager, Port Harcourt, Engr. Rimon Marisho; Project Manager Port Harcourt, Engr. FREE FALLING LYRICS BY ZIPOWEI

Baby I don’t have a definite plan

I just go with the flow

I’m not trying to scare you away

I just want you to know

That I’m free falling through the motions

Salsa dancing with my emotions

Butterfly stroking through the ocean

Just a steady groove

And I have been falling for you

Look I have been grinding for two

You tell me you love me

You tell me you got me

But I cannot tell if it’s true

There’s no turning back on this

Baby I’m passionate

There is nobody but you

Cause I have been falling for you

I have been grinding for two baby

Baby I don’t wanna string you along

So I’m setting it straight

Baby I don’t wanna lead you on

So know before it’s too late

That I’m free falling through the motions

Salsa dancing with my emotions

Butterfly stroking through the ocean

Just a steady groove

And I have been falling for you

Look I have been grinding for two

You tell me you love me

You tell me you got me

But I cannot tell if it’s true

There’s no turning back on this

Baby I’m passionate

There is nobody but you

Cause I have been falling for you

I have been grinding for two baby

I don’t need you to tell me you got me

I know how this goes

So I’m trying to take it slow

Keep my cool, Yeah it’s blue

Steady groove, I’m chill

Yeah, it’s true

Yeah, it’s true

That I’m free falling through the motions

Salsa dancing with my emotions

Butterfly stroking through the ocean

Just a steady groove

A steady groove

A steady groove

2023: Don’t Bother about Run-off, Atiku Will Win at the First Ballot ,  Campaign Assures INEC

November 19, 2022

Press Statement

The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to bother itself with any preparation for a run off in the 2023 Presidential election as the Presidential Candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, will win at the first ballot.

Our campaign counsels INEC not to listen to diversionary narratives by apologists of the deflated All Progressives Congress (APC) who are ostensibly seeking ways to derail the election, having realized that their Party has been rejected.

The campaign urges INEC to deploy its resources towards conducting a free, fair, transparent and credible election that will be generally accepted by majority of Nigerians.

Our campaign is confident that by every indices and data available, our Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will win the Presidential election of February 25, 2023 at the first run.

The APC has seen defeat ahead as Nigerians are quickly reaching a consensus on the fact that the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not electable.

We urge Nigerians to remain resolute in their determination to vote in their choice, Atiku Abubakar, and take every step necessary within the ambit of the law to protect their votes.

DELTA WOMEN TASK KOGI CENTRAL VOTERS ON NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN

  • CALL CDW STATEMENT FOOLISH TALK, SHEER NONSENSE, FAKE NEWS

  • EXPRESS READINESS TO HOST AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN IN WARRI ON SATURDAY

A group, Delta Women Vanguard, on Sunday described the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial Candidate in Kogi Central, Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as the defender of the people.

‘’What the time demands is a woman with strength, who by practical, creative and visionary leadership can embark on a new beginning; a woman with a sense of mission in a rescue operation; a woman of vision and focus; a woman with courage to face difficulties. Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is dedicated to the uplifting of the Ebira man, woman and youth’’

The group also declared its readiness to host the PDP, Kogi Central flag bearer in Warri on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

A statement issued in Warri urged Kogi Central voters to reject narrow minded, untrustworthy, manipulative, selfish and unpatriotic candidates.

‘’Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is polished, beloved by the wonderful people of Kogi State and her name is etched in their minds. We are determined to convince Kogi Central people. We shall urge the voters to reject Kogi APC in 2023’’

DWV National Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Esther Umukoro in the statement in Warri, applauded Akpoti-Uduaghan for raising a lot of women and youths to a higher level of existence and sacrificing to enable them to enjoy good life.

‘’We will make Kogi Central voters be aware of the issues involved in the 2023 senatorial election and the advantage they stand to gain by voting for PDP. We will explain her ideals and priorities and how best to solve the problems of Kogi Central. We will then tell why they have to vote for Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’’

The statement underscored the desire of the good people of Kogi Central to break away from the stranglehold of Governor Yahaya Bello and his cronies.

‘’They will know who has a better grasp of the issues at hand and who is better equipped to solve them. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is not a typical Nigerian politician who speaks from both sides of the mouth’’

The statement also emphasized Akpoti Uduaghan’s benevolence, wisdom, charm, competence, roles played at critical points in the development of Kogi Central and identification with public worthy causes.

‘’Kogi Central is behind in development requirements. Kogi APC will no longer be allowed to pollute the stream from which the people drink’’

The group accused those parading as Concerned Delta Women of advertising ignorance and prejudicing the minds of people by deliberate lies and perversion of the truth.

‘’It is foolish talk and sheer nonsense. These renegades do not have the rectitude to speak on marriage, development and the future of Kogi Central’’.

‘’No crumbs, however tempting, should distract Kogi Central voters from ensuring the electoral victory of Akpoti-Uduaghan in 2023’’ the statement added.

PDP Guber Candidate, Fubara: You Can’t fight Against ‘Godsent”, You’ll Fail – Obuah

The Director General, Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council, Bro Felix Obuah has advised those opposed to the state governorship candidate, Sir Siminalayi Fubara to disembark because it amounts to fighting a lost battle.

Speaking against the backdrop of Sir Fubara’s court victory over the suit seeking his disqualification from the 2023 general election in the state, Bro. Obuah described the PDP flag bearer as ‘Godsent’.

The immediate past PDP State Chairman, Bro. Obuah reminded such persons that nobody has ever fought anybody destined by God for an assignment and succeeded.

Drawing further insight from the scriptures, Bro Obuah referred to those opposed to the party’s choice for the office of Governor of Rivers State and their prospective counterparts to the divine instruction, “touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm”.

“Whether or not you like it, the party has chosen its candidate and all that is expected of every other partyman is to rally round him and ensure victory for the party. Everybody cannot be governor at the same time and besides, God has His own plans for every individual to be made manifest at the fullness of time,” he counseled.

Bro. Obuah, immediate past Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) congratulated Sir Siminalayi Fubara over the court victory and assured that God who has started the victory spree will crown it with overall victory during the election proper and celebration to His glory and to the joy of all PDP members in the state.

He also lauded His Excellency, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike for all his landmark achievements in the state that have raised the bar of governance to an enviable height, making the PDP the choice destination for all political office seekers in the state and assured that his efforts will not be in vain as PDP is poised to continue the winning streak which he has established as a legacy.

We’re ready for APC, Bello in 2023 – Kogi Youths

  • Urge Kogi Central PDP candidate not to be distracted
  • Vow to retire Kogi APC candidates in 2023
  • Say Governor Yahaya Bello afraid of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s rising political profile

Youths in Kogi State on Sunday endorsed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate in Kogi Central, Chief Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, as their choice candidate for the February National Assembly election.

‘’’The good people of Kogi Central deserve a better senator with sound understanding and intellectual depth. Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is suitable and capable of leading the way out of the quagmire we find ourselves today’’

They also chided Governor Yahaya Bello and his cronies for misleading Nigerians, embarking on laughable exercise and suicide mission and placing Kogi State both on the map of national and international ridicule.

‘’Governor Yahaya Bello and his cronies are overwhelmed by the rising political profile of Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. They simply want to be mischievous’’

Meeting under the aegis of Ebira Youths Coalition (EYC), the youths described the N10 billion allegations as purely absurd, diversionary and unnecessary distraction.

‘’Nothing will stop Akpoti-Uduaghan from occupying the Kogi Central senatorial seat in 2023’’.

Rising from an emergency working committee meeting held in Okene, Kogi State, the youths vowed to resist to the last drop of their blood any attempt by Bello and APC members to manipulate the 2023 elections’’

‘’Kogi APC is already heading for the rocks occasioned by its parochialism, deceit and betrayal of the people’s mandate. We will not subscribe to anything evil in 2023. The voters are interested in the emergence of an honest, consistent and credible woman as Kogi Central senator in 2023’’

Speaking through its National Director of Information and Orientation, Dr. Ihiampe Jato, the youths condemned the governor for orchestrating a campaign of calumny against Akpoti-Uduaghan, with a view to impugn her integrity and malign the transparency stance of the Kogi Central PDP candidate.

They praised Akpoti-Uduaghan for her peaceful disposition and gentility.

‘’Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan will make Kogi Central a more salubrious clime. She will promote an environment safe for life and the growth of business’’

They also applauded her for bringing smiles on the faces of Kogi people.

‘’Kogi Central is about to be emancipated from anti-development forces’’

They urged the electorate to come out and vote in February and March, 2023.

‘’We are waiting for the National Assembly election. We know Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan will win. The people will vote for PDP’’

They also urged Nigerians to ignore fake stories sponsored by Kogi APC lepers in Abuja and Lokoja.

‘’We need a vibrant and well-focused senator who has the interest of the district at heart; a woman who is academically sound and administratively skillful; a very deft master strategist who doesn’t talk with both sides of mouth; a woman who will deliver the dividend of democracy to the wonderful people of Kogi Central’’

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s popularity, strength threat to Bello, Kogi APC leaders, says PDP Chieftain

  • Accuses APC of making Kogi State torture, kidnapping and killing chambers
  • Urges Buhari to call Yahaya Bello to order
  • Calls Safiu Governor Yahaya Bello’s loyalist
  • Says PDP ready to take campaign against violence in Kogi State to Europe and America
  • Insists on adequate security

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi, Chief Otenyiete Otuhuo, said the popularity and strength of the party’s senatorial candidate in Kogi Central had thrown Governor Yahaya Bello and other All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in the state into panic mode.

‘’What they are seeing is the beginning of PDP’s victory in 2023. APC should be ready to move out of Kogi State. We do not want war. It is time that the APC realized that it has failed Kogi State people politically’’

He also condemned APC leaders for making Kogi State some sort of torture, kidnapping and killing chambers.

Okene Local Government Chairman, Hon Abdulrazak Yusuf, a few days ago gave one week notice to PDP in the local government area to vacate its party secretariat. Safiu, a loyalist of Governor Yahaya Bello and a man on the pay roll of Abdulkarim Asuku, Chief of Staff to Bello, was abducted for dumping the ruling party in the state.

In a statement in Lokoja, the PDP leader accused Bello and other top government functionaries of employing all kinds of tactics and blackmail to harass and intimidate members of the opposition.

Particularly Ohuhuo criticised Bello for his undemocratic conduct and breach of the peace in Kogi State.

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call Yahaya Bello to order.

‘’Despotism and flagrant abuse of power represent the basic fabric from which the Yahaya Bello led APC administration is woven today. Something should be done to curtail the excesses of Kogi government officials and military personnel in the state’’

He also urged the police to arrest Kogi State APC officials for crimes against humanity.

‘’Kogi APC officials have steadily kidnapped, harassed and beaten individuals that have been critical of Yahaya Bello’s policies’’

The PDP stalwart commended Bello for exposing APC tactics to Kogi electorate, who now fully understand how the party wants to execute its 2023 political plan in the state.

‘’Governor Yahaya Bello and his co-travellers are not intelligent enough. Rather than face PDP squarely, they are looking for cheap distractions. Their efforts to cause more divisions and confusion among Kogi people are becoming new sources of strength and urgency to dislodge them in 2023’’.

The statement underscored rallies and seminars held by different groups to condemn thuggery and violence in Kogi State.

He also praised Kogi people for creating and sustaining a culture of resistance.

‘’Our people are eager to take the crusade to Europe and America. That is the next option if they continue to harass, intimidate, kidnap and kill members of the opposition’’

ASUU: Paying lecturers half salaries unlawful, SERAP tells Buhari

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to “direct the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and the acting Accountant General of the Federation, Sylva Okolieaboh to immediately reverse the apparently illegal deductions from the salaries of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for October 2022.”

SERAP is also urging him to “direct Mr Ngige and Mr Okolieaboh to pay ASUU members full salaries for the duration of their strike action.”

The Federal Government recently allegedly paid half-salaries to members of ASUU for the month of October, 2022. Some professors reportedly received salaries ranging from N71,000 to N121,000 for October.

In the open letter dated 5 November, 2022 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation said: “Paying half salaries to ASUU members solely for exercising their human rights is patently unlawful and incompatible with the Nigerian Constitution 1999 [as amended] and international standards.”

SERAP said, “The alleged deductions from the salaries of ASUU members also amount to punishing them for exercising their right to strike.”

The letter, read in part: “The deductions are illegal and disproportionate. The deductions may also be construed as a deliberate attempt to take away the right to strike, and to make ASUU a lame duck.”

“The right to strike implies the right of workers not to be punished for striking. ASUU members do not therefore forfeit their salaries because they exercise their right to strike.”

“We would be grateful if the recommended measures are taken within seven days of the receipt and/or publication of this letter. If we have not heard from you by then, SERAP shall take all appropriate legal actions to compel your government to comply with our requests in the public interest.”

“Illegal deductions from the salaries of ASUU members may also violate the right to work, and to respect of the dignity inherent in a human being.”

“The deductions are also incompatible with the prohibition of all forms of exploitation and degradation of man particularly cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment and treatment.”

“The deductions also implicitly violate the right of members of ASUU to an adequate standard of living for themselves and their families, including to the continuous improvement of living conditions.”

“Strikes are an essential means available to workers and their organizations to protect their interests.”

“The right to strike is an intrinsic element of the right of association recognized under the Nigerian Constitution, ILO conventions, and human rights treaties to which the country is a state party.”

“Indeed, the right to strike and that of entitlement to full pay for days of strike are essential elements of trade union rights.”

“Paying ASUU members or any workers half salaries solely for lawfully and peacefully exercising their right to strike constitutes an impermissible restriction on the right to freedom of association including the right to strike, which is an essential element in the principle of collective bargaining.”

“The application of any purported ‘no work, no pay’ rule to deduct from the salaries of ASUU members would be clearly inconsistent and incompatible with the Nigerian Constitution and international standards.”

“The right to strike is a keystone of modern industrial society. No society which lacks that right can be democratic. Any society which seeks to become democratic must secure that right.”

“The ILO Committee on Freedom of Association has stated that the imposition of sanctions for strike action is not conducive to harmonious labour relations.”

“According to the Resolution concerning the Abolition of Anti-Trade Union Legislation in the States Members of the International Labour Organisation, member states including Nigeria must ‘ensure the effective and unrestricted exercise of trade union rights, including the right to strike by workers.’”

“Another ILO resolution, titled, ‘Resolution Concerning Trade Union Rights and their Relation to Civil Liberties’ called for action in a number of ways ‘with a view to ensuring full and universal respect for trade union rights including the right to strike in their broadest sense.’”

“Protecting fundamental human rights including the right to strike is not simply about States fulfilling their legal obligations. It is also about them creating democratic and equitable societies that are sustainable in the long run.”

“Without protecting a right to strike, freedom of association, in particular the right to organize activities for the purpose of promoting and protecting workers’ interests, cannot be fully realized.”

“Our requests are brought in the public interest, and in keeping with the requirements of the Nigerian Constitution; and the country’s international obligations including under the International Labour Organization [ILO] Conventions, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to which Nigeria is a state party.”

“SERAP notes that ASUU recently suspended its eight months industrial action following interventions from the Court of Appeal, which upheld an earlier decision from the National Industrial Court NIC.”

North-Central leaders express surprise, unhappiness on Kogi government terrorism statement

  • Move against APC
  • Endorse Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Top leaders of the North Central zone on Friday urged the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo to desist from a campaign of calumny, hate and deception.

‘’Such empty posturing cannot fool the good people of Kogi State. The Commissioner for Information and Communication is talking rubbish. He knows the real terrorist in the state’’

The highly respected leaders also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the Yahaya Bello led All Progressives Congress (APC) government to avoid continuous illegal approach to governance and public issues as it is now becoming a stigma on the ruling party and the Kogi State Government.

‘’We want to use this opportunity to inform Mr. President and the wonderful people of Kogi State that the terrorism statements by the Commissioner for Information and other officials of the Kogi State government are all lies’’

In a statement issued at the weekend in Abuja by the Chairman, Congress of Concerned North Central Leaders (CCNCL), Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman, the leaders noted the frivolity, ignorance and mischief that informed the commissioner’s recent statement.

The commissioner for information embarked upon this latest charade in a vain attempt to deflect attention from the woeful performance of Yahaya Bello.

They condemned the Kogi State government’s skirmish against the opposition, the draconian rulership of Yahaya Bello and the havoc done to the North Central zone by holding down one of the great prospects of the Middle Belt region.

‘’We condemn in strong terms the kidnapping of opposition members in Kogi State. We see this as a very bad trend for the state. We enjoin President Mohammadu Buhari to unravel the people behind this criminal act as the public opinion and petitions lay this at the door step of some powerful members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State.

Principally, the leaders carpeted the APC for abandoning Kogi youths to the ogre of unemployment.

They listed misery, poverty, violence, economic mismanagement and human destruction as key achievements of the APC administration in Kogi State.

‘’What is Governor Yahaya Bello’s performance? He has performed disgracefully. The Yahaya Bello led APC government is oppressive, ugly and blight in the heart of the North Central. Kogi State is now rated highly in the halls of infamy’’

They urged Kogi voters to reject tired souls and con-men whose only motivation is self-enrichment at the expense of the suffering masses.

They also urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Kogi Central Senatorial district, Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, not to be intimidated over the 2023 senatorial race.

‘’Kogi Central needs a senator who can find solutions to the district’s enormous economic, social and political problems. Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has the integrity, dynamism, courage and vision to address problems and take the senatorial district to the Promised Land’’

  • “We have delivered”,  says Fashola, Nigeria’s Works and Housing Minister
  • As Presidents Buhari, Biya say the Border Bridge and Joint Border Post will enhance trade and fight against terrorism in the region
  • You must act in the most professional manner as well as in line with global best practice -Buhari to officials manning Joint Border Post

President Muhammadu Buhari has in Ikom, Cross River State, commissioned the Nigeria-Cameroon Border Bridge and Joint Border Post listing the gains and expectations of the two countries to include boost in trade and efforts of the two countries to combat terrorism.

President Buhari, who performed the ceremony jointly with his Camerounian counterpart, Paul Biya, spoke as Nigeria’s Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN took a holistic view of the projects and declared to the large audience that attended the event, “We have delivered”.

The President also said the commissioning of the 1.5 metre Bridge and Post, funded by the two governments, as well as the African Development Bank (AfDB), would increase the volume of trade and commerce between the two countries.

Represented at the occasion by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Zubairu Dada, the President told the audience of top officials and members of the border communities as well as security agencies at the venue, “The government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria expects that this Joint Border Bridge and Post will enhance security patrol and cooperation in this part of our border with the Republic of Cameroon”.

“While we have confidence that this project will accomplish its set target, it is also our hope that it will complement the current efforts of the Federal Republics of Nigeria and Cameroon to combat the scourge of terrorism and violent extremism in our region”, the President declared adding that the activities of violent extremists have become a major challenge to the development of the sub regions.

According to him, “This menace has continued to threaten our economies and the maximization of the potentials of our countries as well as cause political upheavals and menace in our region. Hence it is our hope that the commissioning of this project will accelerate the efforts of our gallant security personnel who are already doing very well in securing our territories”.

Expressing delight that the project would enhance the volume of economic activities in regions particularly as well as facilitate the movement of goods and services within the countries along the Corridor, President Buhari said it would also serve as a critical link between the countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and those of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

Describing the completion and commissioning of the project as timely, President Buhari declared, “Therefore, we expect that the commissioning of this Joint Border Bridge and Post will not only strengthen the already existing cordial relationship between Nigeria and Cameroon but will enhance cooperation between ECOWAS and ECCAS countries”.

“We also pray this project will enhance interconnectivity of our people and communities and also increase the standards and reduce the barrier to interregional trade and strengthen border security”, he said adding that it would certainly “deepen inextricably the fraternal and cultural bond already existing between Nigerians and Camerounians living along the border communities”.

President Buhari said the project, which, according to him, “is part of the ongoing Nigeria-Cameroon Multinational Highway Transport Facilitation Programme”, would remain a visible testimony to the continuing cooperation and good neighbourliness between Nigeria and Cameroon as well as regional economic communities.

“This Bridge and the Joint Border Post are proof that when African regions work with African institutions of standard, critical developmental projects can be achieved in record time”, the President said expressing delight that both Nigerians and Cameroonians living in the border areas have remained jubilant since the completion of the Bridge and Joint Border Post.

According to him, “Such excitement symbolizes the resolve of our people and governments to remain connected in spite of our seemingly artificial boundaries”.

Commending the government and people of Cameroon for their cooperation and support towards the completion of the project, the President also thanked the funding partners, particularly the African Development bank (AfDB), for their role in financing the project adding that under the leadership of Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, “the Bank has become by all standards a beacon of support in all matter relating to Africa’s development efforts to ensure the timely completion of this project”.

Conscious of the diplomatic importance of the project to both countries, Buhari declared, “Let me also underscore that in order to maximize the benefits of this project, Nigerian and Cameroonian officials who will be saddled with the responsibility of manning the border posts in particular must act in the most professional manner as well as in line with global best practice with effect from today”.

In his own remarks, his Cameroonian counterpart, President Paul Biya, said the Bridge and Post facilities are expected to help increase trade and strengthen cooperation between countries of the ECOWAS and those of the ECCAS in general, and between Cameroon and Nigeria in particular.

President Biya, who was represented by the Cameroonian Minister of Public Works, Mr. Emmanuel Nganou Njoumessi, said the direct beneficiaries of the programme “are the transport services users, as well as the 11million inhabitants (3m in Cameroon and 8m in Nigeria) in the programme area representing 7% of the total population of the two countries”, adding that the programme would reduce overall transport cost and improve the living conditions of the populations living along the road.

The President said the Programme for the transport facilitation of the Bamenda-Enugu road Corridor was conceived by the founding fathers as a confidence building measure to strengthen relations between Nigeria and Cameroon following the strained relations arising as a result of the Bakassi Peninsula issue.

He explained further that the 443 kilometre long Bamenda-Enugu Corridor comprises the Cameroon Bamenda-Mfum-Ekok Road sections, the Nigerian road sections of 240 kilometres, the bridge over the Munaya River in Cameroon and the border bridge of 230 metres Mfum-Ekok Bridge over the Cross River.

Delivering his welcome address earlier, Nigeria’s Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, while expressing delight that the project has been delivered according to the scheduled time, declared “We have delivered. I can say with pride that our job has been done for the benefit of the people of Nigeria and Cameroun which the bridge connects.”

Also commending the vision of the founding fathers in conceiving the project, the Minister acknowledged with gratitude the roles played by the funding partners, the Ministry’s Engineers and Directors as well as the host communities of Nigeria and Cameroon.

“The most important thing about this project is that the Bridge not only connects Nigeria and Cameroon but it begins a journey of a Trans-Africa connection.  The Nigeria/Cameroon Multinational Highway from Enugu in Nigeria to Bamenda in Cameroun is also part of the Dakar-Lagos-Mombasa-Kenya Trans-African Highway and this is the significance of this project”, the Minister said.

In an interview, the Clan Chief of the host community, Ajassor, His Royal Highness Anthony Ntui Etta II, who represented the Paramount Ruler of the Town, expressed gratitude to the governments of Nigeria and Cameroon for their commitment to the execution and completion of the projects adding,  “The Ajassor Clan  are indeed very happy and grateful for the project”.

He added, “The significant of this project cannot be overemphasized as it will strengthen the already existing bond of affinity and further boost trans-border commercial activities between our communities with our kith and kin of Ekok border community in Cameroon and even beyond”.

The colourful ceremony carried out on the 1.5 metre Bridge and at the new Border Post was witnessed by top officials of both countries and representatives of ECOWAS and ECCAS as well as the funding partners, the AfDB, the European Union (EU), who also delivered goodwill messages, and other stakeholders like the Hon. Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, his Ministry of Power counterpart, Hon. Goddy Jedy Agba as well as Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial  District, Professor Sandy Onor.

The ceremony was spiced by traditional dancers from the host communities of both countries.

SANWO-OLU PREACHES UNITY, TOGETHERNESS, AS NATIONAL FESTIVAL OF CULTURES KICKS OFF IN LAGOS

  • ‘We’re ready to Showcase Tourism, Export Creative Ideas to Global Market’ – Governor

Lagos State, on Wednesday, became the convergence of Nigeria’s diversity and cultures. The State literally turned the centre stage for the exhibition of local customs, arts and traditions in what appeared to be the largest cultural carnival in the country.

An array of elegantly dressed troupes from 29 states of the federation kept the guests’ attention hooked to flamboyantly rehearsed pageantry, flaunting the nation’s rich cultural heritage in the full glare of local and international audience.

The contingents are participants in the week-long festival tagged “EKO-NAFEST 2022”. The 35th National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) is being organised by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with National Council of Arts and Culture (NCAC).

Top Government officials, foreign envoys, traditional rulers, cultural ambassadors, NGOs, and schoolchildren made the roll call of guests at the festival’s opening ceremony held Mobolaji Johnson Pavilion, Onikan.

Lagos became the fourth time host of NAFEST, a cultural fiesta initiated in 1970 to foster national integration, strengthen understanding and unity among diverse ethnic groups and promote the peaceful co-existence.

The event will feature various competitions and non-competitive activities, including excursion trips to various tourist sites in the host city.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared the fiesta opened, charging the participants and audience to exhibit “true spirit of Lagos”, which he explained to be the State’s “accommodating nature” towards visitors.

Sanwo-Olu said Lagos Government accepted the event’s hosting right in demonstration of its love for cultural advancement and promotion of togetherness.

As melting pot of culture and hub of commerce, the Governor said Lagos would continue to export the nation’s rich heritage and entertainment to the global market, thereby attracting foreign investment into the local creative and entertainment sector.

He said: “Lagos State Government is proud to be hosting NAFEST for the fourth time, having hosted the first edition in 1970. The foundational objectives of the festival is in line with our administration’s goals for the promotion of entertainment and tourism, which are a key pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda. We are deliberate about promoting every aspect of tourism, arts and culture, which is why we make it a practice to support, partner and collaborate in activities that would further strengthen our cultural heritage and promote our unity in diversity.

“For the next seven days, delegates from the states across the federation will be showcasing and celebrating our country’s cultural heterogeneity. As headquarters of entertainment and foremost commercial nerve centre of Africa, Lagos will continue to represent our country globally in creativity, music, films and culture. As a State, we are committed to supporting local talents and help them to export their creative ideas to the global market where they can exchange them for values.”

Sanwo-Olu re-echoed the need to use the cultural platform to engender peaceful co-existence and promote unity. He told the cultural troupes to eschew issues that that promote division and stoke tension.

As 2023 general elections draw close, the Governor urged the participants to use the opportunity to support leaders that would leverage the multi-cultural heritage and language to unify the country and bring back the spirit of togetherness among all citizens.

Rather than allowing differences in language and culture to divide them, Sanwo-Olu told participants to see the diversity as resources to be developed for collective advantage.

He said: “We are in the campaign season as our nation’s general elections has been scheduled to hold within the first quarter of next year. As political office holders continue to engage the electorate at this period, it is important to re-echo the message of unity and peaceful co-existence which NAFEST platform provides.

While we celebrate the Nigerian heritage and cultural diversity here today, my clarion call is that we take this an opportunity to elect leaders who will recognize and take advantage of our rich, multi-cultural heritage and language to unify us as a people and as a nation which was the intention of our founding fathers.”

Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, advised the cultural to use the opportunity of the festival to explore the tourism sites in different parts of Lagos, especially the waterway transportation system being developed by the State Government.

She said peaceful co-existence remained the catalyst for national development, urging the delegates to engage in dialogue and activities that would guarantee the peace throughout the period of the event.

NCAC Director General, Otunba Segun Runsewe, expressed appreciation of the Council to Gov. Sanwo-Olu and members of the Local Organising Committee for putting necessary facilities and logistic arrangements in place for the hosting of the event.

He said: The contents of EKO-NAFEST 2022 have been deliberately drawn to reflect and resonate the importance of peace across our nation. The event also emphasises the need to mobilise our collective conscience to fully embrace our diversity in the interest of progress and prosperity.”

SANWO-OLU MEETS 36 FINALISTS, AS JAKANDE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY TAKES OFF

…30 selected fellows to start programme January

All is set for the inaugural session of Lateef Jakande Leadership and Fellowship Academy to take off, with the presentation of 36 finalists shortlisted for the programme to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State House, Alausa, on Tuesday.

The meeting with the Governor formally ended the rigorous application process, which received over 3,000 applications across the country. The finalists will be prune to pave the way for the first cohort of 30 trainees, who will be admitted to start the fellowship next January.

Sanwo-Olu instituted the Leadership Academy to immortalise the first civilian Lagos Governor, the late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, who governed the State between 1979 and 1983.

The Academy was initiated with the objective to train and nurture young leaders with the right values and leadership skills to build institutions across sectors and make lasting impact on the society.

The finalists consisted mainly of youths from diverse backgrounds and sectors.

Sanwo-Olu, who had personal interaction with all the shortlisted candidates, said the initiative focused on leveraging education and mentoring to raise a new set of leaders that would sustain the values and legacy of the late Jakande in public governance.

Education, the Governor said, was one of the most iconic programmes of the Jakande administration, stressing that the best way to honour the late ex-Governor was to revive his most impactful legacy.

He said: “This Leadership Academy, for me, is part of my donation and legacy to give back not just to Lagos, but the entire country. The worth of a leader is not just being a leader, but how many future leaders he can raise. We created this fellowship to be a national project. The late Alhaji Lateef Jakande only governed Lagos for four years, but he made lasting impression on all the citizens and his name is etched on the minds of everyone.

“When the thought about setting up the Academy came, we said to ourselves we didn’t want to name another street or estate after Jakande, because his name has had a lot of that. We thought about establishing an institution that will sustain and project the values for which the late Jakande was known. We seek to raise young leaders that will take up the baton of leadership in years ahead and the only way we can do that is to be intentional and be deliberate in scouting for brilliant young people who are best in their own areas.”

Sanwo-Olu said the fellowship participation was intentionally limited to the age bracket that had opportunities for future leadership. This, he said, was to ensure seamless transferring of leadership baton to young people and create a better future for them.

The Governor emphasised the fellowship would promote diversity and balance gender inclusion, noting that the objective was not to leave anyone behind in equipping young people with leadership qualities that would transform them to change makers.

He said: “I believe all the shortlisted candidates have all it takes to make the change they desire to see. All we need to do is to help you build your capacity and push out the skills in you. If all these skills are harnessed, there will be nobody that will not learn from the other. This is our intention.

“I’ve listened to the stories and seen the passion you all have brought into this. Given the detailed selection we have done, I believe we are on the right track to achieve the goals of this initiative. I can imagine the output we will be coming up with one year down the line. Not only will you be ready to change the world, I believe you will be ready to take over the world.”

Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle, said the process through which the finalists were picked was competitive and thorough, noting that the fellows would be taken through rigorous training that would expose them to the procedures of public governance and administration.

She said the selected fellows would also have international exposure in the course of the training.

Some of them told the Governor their intentions for applying for the fellowship during personal interaction.

Miss Alexis Ogechukwu Ogba said she looked forward to imbibing values that would enable her raise her impacts in the health sector.

Hakeem Alausa, a young civil servant, hoped he would be able to build my capacity in policy development and implementation.

SANWO-OLU INAUGURATES MINI HOUSING SCHEME, VOCATIONAL CENTRE IN SURULERE

…LSDPC Regenerates Criminal Hideout, Builds 20-Unit Apartments For Residents

From the dust of a filthy parcel of land emerges the Love Garden – an elegantly designed residential development in Surulere built by the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC).

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, led members of the State cabinet to commission the 20-unit two-bedroom apartments located on Olorogun-Allen Street, Surulere.

The opening of the mini-housing scheme was greeted by spontaneous jubilation in the neighbourhood. Residents, in their number, trooped out to receive and appreciate Governor Sanwo-Olu for transforming what used to be a criminals’ hideout into a cosy residential asset.

The suspended twin three-storey development sits on 2,719.30m square land belonging to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Besides, the Governor also opened a vocational training centre built by LSDPC on Owolewa Street in Surulere.

Sanwo-Olu said the redevelopment of the abandoned land had not only provided accommodation for residents, noting that a major security threat in the area had also been solved.

The Governor said the transformation further reiterated the commitment of his Government to urban regeneration and infrastructural renewal. He commended the two agencies for the collaboration that led to the development.

“The land on which this project is sited used to be a security liability for residents of this neighbourhood. It was previously a massive school compound before the school was moved out of the site. The land was taken over by people of questionable character, who committed all sorts of atrocities and constituted threats to the residents’ peace. We had a conversation with SUBEB for the conversion of this fallow asset into a living asset.

“Today, the elegantly designed residential edifice is the outcome of the collaboration between LSDPC and SUBEB. We have created an enabling environment for Government agencies to collaborate with the private sector in order to reduce the housing needs of our people. Now, the beneficiaries of this scheme can raise their family in this nice ambience and serene environment. Community members will also live in harmony, as we have eliminated a major threat to their peace.”

Sanwo-Olu said the provision of safe and comfortable housing schemes for the citizens remained a key objective of his Government’s programmes, noting that the intervention had helped his administration to raise standards of living.

He said the State Government remained committed to scaling up access to safe and convenient housing while strengthening partnerships with the private sector to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

More housing projects, the Governor said, will be inaugurated before the end of the year. He charged beneficiaries to maintain the structure and encourage activities that would sustain the investment.

“For residents living in this neighbourhood, this development presents an opportunity to key into the Government’s urban regeneration programme and improve their environment to raise the quality of living. We must join hands to ensure the mega status of Lagos is sustained,” Sanwo-Olu said.

LSDPC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Ayodeji Joseph, said the housing scheme was built to reflect simplicity and elegance, while also being complemented with contemporary infrastructure. The apartments, he said, have dedicated uninterrupted power source in addition to being connected to the national grid.

Joseph said the Owolewa Vocational Centre was built by LSDPC as a Corporate Social Responsibility to give back to the Surulere community to further aid the State Government’s efforts at empowering young people with modern skills.

“I salute the maturity and cooperation displayed by the SUBEB management during the period of discussion to change the use of the property and rights to acquire it. Today, the outcome has become a win-win situation for both the LSDPC and SUBEB,” Joseph said.

Facilities in the mini scheme include a security section, water system, expansive car parking space and electricity supply system.

Kogi Elders Decry Yahaya Bello’s performance

  • Condemn abduction of Safiu, brother to Bello’s Chief of Staff
  • Back PDP in 2023
  • Task Buhari, security chiefs, others on kidnapping, political assassination

Top leaders of Kogi State on Thursday accused Governor Yahaya Bello of turning the domestic lives of the people upside down.

They also described the governor as a despot, symbol of oppression and erratic character.

In a statement in Lokoja, the leaders urged President Muhammadu Buhari to address the spate of kidnapping in Kogi State.

The statement issued by the Chairman of Kogi Indigenous Forum (KIF), Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman, accused the ruling party of abducting members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Safiu, stepbrother of Abdulkarim Asuku, the Chief of Staff to Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, was abducted on Monday

Particularly, the notable leaders accused the ruling party of hatching a destructive plan, orchestrating violence and deliberating using hit squads to destabilize the opposition in the state.

They described the Kogi State governor as a desperate and confused person who has no value for human life.

‘’Governor Yahaya Bello enjoys seeing the people in misery’’

The Igala, Ebira, Okun, Bassa Nge, Kakanda, Bassa-Komo and Oworo leaders underscored violence, terror and feelings of hatred against the opposition.

The eminent leaders blamed Bello for failing to address the state’s pressing needs.

They called on the electorate to vote out APC in the 2023 elections.

‘’PDP will break the back of APC. It will beat the ruling party, others in the 2023 elections’’

The group of respected leaders in the state scolded Bello for putting APC in extremely difficult position.

‘’APC members in Kogi State are living in cloud-cuckoo land. Humiliation and embarrassment await Kogi APC 2023’’.
