A Court Jails Senator Nwaoboshi 7 Years for Money Laundering

The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Friday, July 1, 2022 convicted and sentenced Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, to 7 years imprisonment along with his two companies: Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd

In addition, the Court of Appeal ordered that the companies who were the 2nd and 3rd respondents in appeal be wound up in line with Section 22 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and their properties forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria

The panel, comprising Justices Abdullahi Bayero, Obande Ogbuniya and Peter Affen in their judgment held that the trial court erred because the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt against the respondents and thus reverse the earlier judgement discharging and acquitting the respondents.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had challenged the judgment of Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court which on June 18, 2021 discharged and acquitted the defendants of a two count charge of fraud and money laundering.

EFCC had arraigned the three defendants over the acquisition of a property named Guinea House, Marine Road, in Apapa, Lagos, for N805 million. Part of the money paid to the vendor, precisely a sum of N322 million transferred by Suiming Electrical Ltd on behalf of Nwaoboshi and Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd was alleged to be part of proceeds of fraud.

But in his judgment, Justice Aneke held that the prosecution failed to call vital witnesses and tender concrete evidence to prove the elements of the offences for which it charged the defendants.

Justice Aneke said the evidence of PW2 “proved that the third defendant obtained a loan of N1.2 billion from Zenith Bank for purchase of additional equipment and as provision of working capital.

“It also proved that the loan of N1.2 billion together with interest of N24 million was properly granted to the third. Nothing else was proved by the complainant or prosecutor in this case,” the judge said.

He claimed a fatal blow was dealt the case of the prosecution by its failure to call officials of Sterling Bank “to testify and probably tender exhibits F and F10”.

Consequently, he discharged and acquitted the defendants.

However ruling on the EFCC’s appeal today, the Court of Appeal held that the trial judge erred in dismissing the charges against the respondents. It said the prosecution had proved the ingredients of the offence and consequently found the defendants guilty as charged.

THANKS FOR ACCOMMODATING NIGERIANS AND THOSE FLEEING THE WAR IN UKRAINE, PRESIDENT BUHARI TELLS MAYOR OF LISBON

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met with Fernando Medina, Mayor of Lisbon and City Council Members, expressing heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to them for accommodating Nigerians as well as those fleeing the war in Ukraine.

The President also used the occasion to congratulate him and his party on their electoral victory and his emergence as the Mayor of Lisbon.

The Nigerian leader thanked Fernando Medina for graciously receiving the Nigerian delegation in the ‘beautiful and historic coastal city of Lisbon,’ commending the excellent manner the city is administered, as a prime global tourist destination.

‘‘The city of Lisbon shares a number of similarities with some Nigerian cities such as Lagos, the former capital of Nigeria, whose name was given by the Portuguese explorer Rui de Sequeira, who visited in 1472, naming the area around the city, Lago de Curamo, which means Lake of Curamo.

‘‘Both cities are rich in history and are also commercial nerve centres that host multinational corporations, industries, and major seaports. We are optimistic that these shared features can be harnessed to promote increased trade and people-to-people contact for the benefit of our two countries.

‘‘Nigeria, like Portugal, has many unique, historic, and cultural assets, as well as a developing hospitality industry, which both countries can exploit to promote tourism.

‘‘We are also keen to establish a direct air link between our two countries to further stimulate tourism, people-to-people contact and social, sporting and cultural relations,’’ he said.

President Buhari highlighted that Nigeria has made great strides in diversifying its economy beyond oil and gas, recording successes in agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructural development, among others.

He, therefore, invited prospective investors to Nigeria as the next top investment destination, saying ‘‘we are ready to extend our bilateral trade beyond oil and gas.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Mayor of Lisbon, Fernando Medina, extolled Nigeria’s greatness, especially in her ability to turn diversity into greatness: “We have one thing in common. We believe diversity is key. Nigeria is a great nation. Former President Obama said that about you, that you strive to overcome division and turn Nigeria’s diversity into a source of strength, so you are able to build the largest economy in Africa. I so much agree with that.”

“Diversity is a matter of innovation and that’s why we both have excellent innovation ecosystems. You have just opened one of the biggest Urea plants, I think the second in the world and the largest fertilizer centre in Africa making your country self-sufficient.”

“You have produced five out of the seven unicorns, the big companies in Africa. You have one of the biggest projects on biometrics identification that has helped the banking system with relevant contributions for some Portuguese companies. So we want to work with you and your innovators. We need you. We need the African continent. We need to work with you peer to peer.”

He informed the Nigerian leader of his plan for Portugal to launch a “Unicorn Factory” in Lisbon and his desire to “have those African, Nigerian unicorns with us. Young people that could work with Portuguese people. That will be very important for Lisbon.”

The Mayor, while presenting the keys of the City of Lisbon to President Buhari, emphasized the cultural, historical, political and diplomatic ties between Lisbon and Abuja, describing the keys as “a token of respect and appreciation.”

REGIONAL SECURITY: PRESIDENT BUHARI THANKS PORTUGAL FOR SUPPORT

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday night expressed appreciation to Portugal for the deployment of weapons and training of military personnel in ensuring peace in the sub-region.

Speaking at a State Dinner in National Palace Ajuda, Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, the President commended President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa for deploying troops for peacekeeping in the Central African Republic, monitoring political developments and providing assistance to some countries in Africa, including Equatorial Guinea, Cape Verde and Mozambique.

President Buhari said at the dinner attended by the President of the Portuguese National Assembly, Augusto Santos Silva, and Prime Minister Antonio Costa that the Nigerian Government has made it a priority to tackle the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, the ECOWAS, and the Sahel.

He added that this would not have been successful without our regional as well as global partners.

‘‘The Boko Haram insurgency in the North-eastern part of Nigeria is being tackled through the efforts of government, as well as the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) of member countries,’’ he said.

President Buhari expressed optimism that his State Visit would further strengthen the goodwill and collaboration between the two countries.

He noted that the establishment of a Joint Commission, which is one of the main priorities of the visit, would further promote the full realisation of the objectives of bilateral relations, achieving concrete, specific and viable projects and programmes for the benefit of citizens of the two countries.

‘‘Today, Portugal imports about 60 percent of its gas from Nigeria which makes it our second-largest market in Europe.

‘‘There is still more that can be achieved between the two countries, especially with the current Russia-Ukraine war which has disrupted steady gas supplies to Europe.

‘‘Furthermore, Nigeria wants to see trade diversified to non-oil products such as agriculture, power projects, renewable energy and pharmaceuticals where a lot could be achieved,’’ he said.

The President emphasized the need to revive the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) and finalize all pending bilateral agreements so as to boost economic activities and movement of people between the two countries.

President Buhari described Nigeria as one of the most attractive destinations for investment in Africa, adding that his Government is prioritizing building a business-friendly environment.

‘‘Nigeria is part of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) – the largest free trade area in the world. With a population of over 200 million mainly young men and women, Nigeria is a natural and attractive hub for foreign investment and one-stop market access to over 50 countries.’’

The Nigerian leader welcomed the Business Forum organized during the visit and the signing of many Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries’ investment promotion agencies and chambers of commerce.

He described the signing of the agreements ‘‘as excellent foundations for increased bilateral trade.’’

President Buhari also commended his Portuguese counterpart for extending his country’s engagement with Africa and African issues beyond Lusophone countries.

‘‘In that context, I wish to remind us that in addition to giving our former capital, Lagos, its name, the Portuguese were the first Europeans to arrive in what later became Nigeria, even before the British.

‘‘During that time, the Benin Kingdom had diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Portugal. The bodyguards of the Oba of Benin were sent from Portugal.

‘‘Today, there are streets in some states in Nigeria that still bear Portuguese names. This shows a strong bond that has endured a long time between our two countries,’’ President Buhari said.

CDWR Backs Ogun workers’ Strike

CDWR Calls on Gov. Dapo Abiodun to meet the demands of workers without further delay

CDWR calls on TUC, NLC and other civil society organizations to declare a 48-hour warning strike nationwide in support of workers’ demands across the states and across sectors.

The Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR), Ogun State Chapter backs the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the public sector workers and condemns in strong terms, the recalcitrant and insensitive response of the Dapo Abiodun-led APC government towards workers’ plights and demands. We, therefore, call on the government to immediately accede to workers’ demands without further delay.

The CDWR recalled that the state public sector workers issued a seven days ultimatum on June 21, 2022, to the government, after several failed attempts by the negotiating teams led by the state leaderships of TUC and NLC to reach a satisfactory resolution with the government. This was after the Dapo Abiodun government consistently refused to implement the MOU he voluntarily signed with the workers!

The demands of workers among others are remittance of 21 months of salary deductions; implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme; payment of eight years of leave allowances; restoration of payment of gross salary and the implementation of Consequential Adjustment on Minimum Pension.

Rather than meet the workers’ demands expeditiously, the government has been displaying sheer arrogance and insensitivity, hence, workers have to embark on indefinite strike action at a workers’ congress held in Abeokuta on 27 June 2022.

This has again shown the disdain and anti-workers disposition of the Dapo Abiodun government, despite its hypocrisy! The Dapo Abiodun-led APC government since its inception, has continued to unleash attacks on the poor working masses of Ogun state, implementing anti-poor, neo-liberal policies of privatization of public utilities, contract system, commercialization, Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) among others.

These anti-poor policies are responsible for the state of bad roads; the poor working masses burdened with all forms of levies and taxes, education is underfunded; quality and affordable public healthcare largely absent; affordable housing a mirage; denial of workers their benefits! All of these have worsened the living and working conditions of the masses.

The CDWR, therefore, urges the workers to maintain their steadfastness till their demands are met. And also to include in the demands, the need for the government to end privatization and other neo-liberal attacks on the working masses, including paying over 80 (eighty) months salary deductions of TASCE workers, and the immediate reinstatement of all unjustly sacked workers, and the discontinuation of all trumped-up charges on some workers in the institution currently been prosecuted at the law court by the state government.

CDWR calls on the TUC and NLC leadership, not to make the strike exclusively a sit-at-home. But rather, to organize public programs around it, like press conferences, symposia, rallies, protest marches, picketing, and leafleting, so as to gain mass support and sympathy for the workers’ demands, and prevent the government’s blackmail, harassment and distortion, which could discredit the workers and their demands.

We also call on the national leadership of the TUC, NLC and the civil society organizations to declare and mobilize for a 48-hour warning strike in support of Ogun workers’ demands; payment of the new national minimum wage owed workers by some state governments, who have defaulted implementation years after it has been signed into law; ASUU demands, insecurity; high cost of living; raising inflation; fuel scarcity and high electricity tariff etc.

Above all, to resolve these issues permanently, the CDWR calls on trade union leaders and civil society allies to commence the process of the formation of a genuine mass working people political party on socialist programmes of nationalization of the commanding heights of the economy under the democratic management and control of working people.

Shun Cybercrime, Bawa Charges NYSC Members

The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has charged Nigerian youths to shun cybercrime and other forms of criminality. Bawa stated this today, June 30, 2022 at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Okada Town, Edo State while delivering a lecture on the Role of Youths in Curbing Cybercrime.

Bawa, who was represented by Williams Oseghale, Head, Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Command, stated that the youths were critical in the fight against economic and financial crimes. “Apart from the fact that they are considered as leaders of tomorrow, most economic crimes, especially cyber crimes are committed by young people. It therefore follows that young people must not be mere spectators in the anti-graft campaign, rather they should be foot soldiers leading the mass rout of corruption and economic crimes out of our land”.

The EFCC boss urged the youths to embrace hard work as there is no shortcut to wealth and fame. “Acts of criminality might deliver wealth in the short term but ultimately they lead to misery”.

At the NYSC camp at Iyana Ipaja, the EFCC chairman who was represented by Ayo Oyewole, Head, PAD, Lagos Command reiterated the together-against-corruption call and urged Nigerian youths to lend a hand in building a society where there is respect for law and order and where impunity is a thing of the past.

He described the youth as catalysts in the fight against corruption and urged them to become whistleblowers wherever they find themselves by reporting acts that fail the simple test of integrity.

At the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ise/Emure/Oru, Ekiti State, Gbenga Adewoye of the Public Affairs Department, Ilorin Zonal Command, who delivered the Chairman’s message charged the corps members to take ownership of the fight against graft. “The Commission cannot do it alone, I beseech you all this morning to take ownership of the fight against corruption and contribute your quota for the betterment of this country,” he said

Speaking at the NYSC Camp at Kiama, Bayelsa State, the EFCC boss who was represented by Bako Aliyu Doma, Head, Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section, FEMS tasked the corps members to be anti-graft agents by enlisting as foot soldiers in the fight against economic and financial crimes in the country.

“Be role models in your respective areas of primary assignments. Join EFCC/NYSC Community Development Service, CD Groups for more enduring and robust engagement.”

In a similar message delivered by Bassey Prince Effiong, Head, Cyber Crimes Section at NYSC Camp, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, he warned the corps members to shun internet fraud as it was capable of truncating their future.

At the Orientation Camp at Nonwa-gbam, Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State, Akpos Ekisowei, Head, PAD, Port Harcourt Zonal Command called on the corps members to embrace hard work and shun inordinate ambition.

The same message was simultaneously delivered by Adeniran Adebayo, Head, PAD, Makudi at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Wannune, Tarka LGA, Benue State just as Nana Fatima Abubakar of PAD delivered the message at the NYSC Orientation camp in Kaduna.

The duo of Chika Uneke and Mary Ogolekwu were at the NYSC Orientation camp at Issele Uku, Delta State and Ikare-Akoko Ondo State respectively to deliver the EFCC chairman’s message.

Some other officers were at various NYSC camps across the nation to deliver the Executive Chairman’s message of accountability, transparency, probity and integrity to thousands of corps members.

How humility earned Senator Eyakenyi Akwa Ibom deputy governorship slot

Promises to give women sense of belonging in governance

By Bisi Ezekiel

Fortune smiles on Dr.(Mrs) Akon Etim Eyakenyi, the serving  senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District as she was named the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State.

She got the position without much Ado while many male political figures in the party lobbied in the state and even in Abuja to be picked. But the party and it’s candidate beam the searchlight on the woman of substance who is no push over in Akwa Ibom politics.

Many factors could have worked for the Senator to have been found worthy of the position by the party’s governorship candidate, Pastor Eno Umo.

Among the many factors is her unprecedented humility.

She was screened by the PDP Deputy Governorship Screening Committee on Wednesday, June 22 alongside 27 other state  running mates of the party at the PDP secretariat, Abuja.

Seeing herself as the face of Akwa Ibom women in government, she told journalists after being screened that she will represent the interest of women in government.

In her words, she said ” I am going to represent the slot of the women but I am going as a mother for the 31 local government of Akwa Ibom State covering both men, youth, elderly.

“I am going there to serve, to set a standard and ensure that after me, another woman can pick up the position, I will also ensure that women have their due and right at the executive, legislative and party level.

“I am also going to be a model and standard to every woman in Akwa Ibom State.”

She appreciated  the party, the governor of Akwa Ibom and stakeholders who approved that a woman be given the slot of deputy governor for the first time.

Senator Eyakenyi has always acknowledged the grace of God for every position she attain in life.

She said ” I want to start by saying that for every position, God is the  one that identifies who to put into position, but people also have a way of  pushing one to a position. I belong to the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP in my state. I have been there since inception and I have contributed my own quota to my people under the umbrella. I am accessible to the people. I have served my people in different capacity.”

Speaking on how she has been getting appointments and positions  in a male dominated environment, she said  “I want to say that I identified what the needs of my people were, I identified what they definitely wanted me to do”

She said her  own philosophy is service and  commitment to humanity.

Always at home with her people in her senatorial district, the Senator said “Without pride, if you have access to my people in Akwa Ibom South senatorial district, they will tell you that this time they have a Senator. If you have listening to radio, online , social media you will see that Senator Akon Eyakenyi is working.”

“The three things that a good Senator or a good representative is expected  to do are good quality representation in and out of the floor of the Senate on behalf of your people, the oversight function and then the briefing of the people.

The deputy governorship candidate called on the people of Akwa Ibom to fully support the party, herself and the governorship candidate to win the coming election.

She said “it is by voting us into power that we can continue the good work and developmental strides of our efficient governor, Emmanuel Udom.”.

Senator Akon Eyakenyi PhD is a native of Mbokpu Eyoakan in Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State by birth and Oron Local Government Area by marriage.

52ND AGM: JULIUS BERGER NIGERIA PLC DELIVERS PROGRESSIVELY HIGHEST DIVIDEND IN FIVE YEARS TO LOYAL SHAREHOLDERS

–          “We stand strong”, says confident MD Lars Richter

Chairman of the Board of foremost engineering construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, CON has said that though the company had challenges in the 2021 financial year, it excelled and overcame the challenges by dint of hard work and unflinching commitment to success on the part of the management and staff of the company.

He spoke just as the Managing Director, Engr Dr. Lars Richter disclosed that the company stood strong in the year under review even as the company’s shareholders approved a N2.50k per share dividends.

Speaking at the 52nd Annual General Meeting of the company Saturday in Abuja, the Chairman presented the Consolidated Financial Statements of the year under review saying that within the period, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc performed positively despite the numerous macro-economic hiccups which affected businesses during the year. He added that the company achieved exceptional financial performance, meeting targets for both revenue and cash flow. “One for those challenges, of course is COVID-19, which remains ever present in our personal and professional lives – with prolonged consequences. Unfortunately, we are unable to put this virus behind us just yet,” the Chairman said.

However, the Chairman did not mince words in declaring that, “while 2021 was certainly a challenging year, more positively, it was also a dynamic and industrious year,” adding that, “within our core construction business, we made meaningful progress across our portfolio of private and public projects”. He listed the projects to include the International Worship Centre, Uyo, the Office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja, the Bodo-Bonny Road as well as infrastructure projects in Lagos state and in Rivers state, where Julius Berger have supported the State Governments to achieve a remarkable infrastructure transformation within the year.” Specifically, Dr Richter also listed some successfully commissioned major projects to include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation office, several flyovers and civil infrastructural works in Port Harcourt; and the Rehabilitated Control Towers at Tincan Island and the Lagos Port Complex.

Underscoring the shining example of the trust the federal government placed on Julius Berger, the Chairman harped on the priority projects of the government being financed via the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund at an excellent pace, Mr. Sunmonu said that the company forged ahead with all of them including the Second River Niger Bridge and the Abuja-Kano Road “ with our values, standards and capacities remaining core to our competitive edge.”

Stating that Julius Berger Nigeria Plc closed for the year under review “with a Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate of 0.19, equivalent to our 2020 results”, the Chairman added that the various subsidiaries of the Group also made reasonable progress in 2021.

Mr. Sunmonu said, “the year 2021 has been largely positive, with many great accomplishments to reflect on”, forecasting with good confidence that “…this year 2022, we will continue to work hard, remain resilient and champion progress in regard to the potentials ahead of us. Furthermore, Sunmonu also said, “We do not underestimate the effort or the endeavour it will take to achieve our vision, but we also do not underestimate our collective diligence and determination.”

In his own remarks to shareholders at the AGM, the Managing Director, Engr. Dr Lars Richter built on the Chairman’s earlier remarks saying that the three pillars of Julius Berger’s  business strategy, “the core business, group subsidiaries and diversification” have remained central to all operations even as he shared an update on the company’s sustainability and inclusivity efforts, as well as on the company’s outlook for 2022 and beyond.

The Managing Director firmly declared that “Julius Berger continues to stand strong, our values are firmly in place and our reputation for reliable and quality delivery remains unmatched…. And within our core business we continue to realize meaningful progress across our portfolio of projects as a foundation for our continued success and growth.”

On the business trajectory of the company, Richter said Julius Berger continues to acquire new projects for major clients such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Lagos and Port Harcourt State, the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Richter also celebrated Julius Berger’s achievement with regard to the company’s recertification of its Quality Management in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, “…proving that our commitment to quality and process continues to stand strong.” Richter further stated that Julius Berger continues to “…bolster the foundations of its competitive edge, manpower and machine power, with the modernization of our Human Resources structure and strategy and the update and expansion of our equipment fleet; both major investments that will payback in many folds, both today and in future.” To emphasize the worthy development, Richter, cited the company’s recent operational “rollout of more equipment to support the success of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road.”

On the performance of the company in 2021, the Managing Director said that, as a group Julius Berger has achieved an overall exceptional financial performance in 2021 ”meeting targets for both revenue and cash flow; enabling the company to extend a dividend payment to you, our loyal shareholders.”

Enumerating the specific challenges faced by the company in 2021, Dr Lars Richter listed those stemming from the indirect impacts and aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as “global procurement where prices for logistics remain elevated, shortages and delays remain a reality and as a result, prices for raw materials and goods continue to increase.”

The Ukrainian war, Engr. Richter added, compounded supply chain disruptions, with prices soaring for other essential building materials like steel, sand and wood just as it has led to increases in the price of crude oil. “For us in Nigeria, the higher cost of diesel combined with fuel scarcity, has led to another layer of price increase… an extraordinary surge in transport costs,” he added. Dr Richter also informed shareholders that the greatest and most hard-hitting challenge the company continues to face is the sustained shortage of FOREX. He described the forex scarcity as “…a critical crisis which has persisted with far reaching negative impact on the economy generally and on Julius Berger specifically, as it creates major and substantial financial losses.” He, however, disclosed that management was able to put in place robust, resilient and business continuity planning; providing preparation and strategies to navigate the key risk.

Three directors including Chairman Mutiu Sunmomu, CON, Mrs Belinda Ajoke Disu, CAL, and Mrs Gadys O. Talabi were also re-elected by Shareholders to the Board of the company at the 52nd Annual General Meeting in Abuja.

The highlight of the event was when Shareholders voted overwhelmingly for a N2.50 per share dividend owned compared to the 50kobo per share paid out last financial year. This year’s dividend payout is the highest shareholders are receiving in the last five years. Happy Shareholders overwhelmingly commended the company’s management for excellent performance.

Ex-MPPP National Chairman makes case for Tinubu

A former National Chairman of Mega Progressives People’s Party (MPPP), Hon Aderemi Banjo, on Sunday described presidential hopeful, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as ‘’a man of noble character, true Nigerian and promoter of youth development’’.

‘’Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the perfect man for the presidential job’’.

Banjo reacted in Lagos to the innuendoes and the allegations that have been made in the press, Tinubu’s leading role in the fall of Dr Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 and the need to attract the kind of confidence that is vital for investment and growth.

He called on prominent APC leaders in the country to reflect on the agreement committing leading members of the party to accepting Tinubu as the flag bearer in 2023

In a statement Sunday, Banjo advised notable leaders to focus on the things that promote unity in the nation and the ruling party rather than on issues that breed feuds and division.

The party leader noted that Buhari would not have been APC presidential flag bearer in 2014 and winner of the 2015 and 2019 elections.

Titled “Asiwaju: The political encyclopaedia against all intrigues”, Banjo attributed Buhari’s political victory in 2015 and 2019 to Tinubu.

He urged the ruling party to assess APC presidential aspirants based on the contributions to their states.

He also stated that Tinubu has the potential to build a strong economy and provide the nucleus of development for the country.

Particularly, he credited the detribalised nature of Lagos State, religious friendly environment, proactive management of emergency and infrastructural development to Tinubu.

‘Aspirants not having experience in the management of Lagos State are not fit to be president of Nigeria’’.

Banjo who is currently a chieftain of the ruling party recollected Tinubu’s appointment of Yemi Osinbajo, Rauf Aregbesola and Ben Akabueze as commissioners.

He also recollected the Patriotic Electoral Alliance of Nigeria , the 33 political parties endorsed the candidacy of Dr Goodluck Jonathan and the role of the South-West governors.

The APC stalwart urged Buhari to remember Jonathan’s blunder and the failure of the PDP in 2015.

He appealed to delegates to vote Tinubu as the APC presidential candidate.

The statement also emphasised APC’s victory in 2023, unity, scheme of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and development of the country.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s victory, a good omen – Kogi Central Leaders

Notable Kogi State leaders on Thursday reacted to the victory of Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Wednesday’s senatorial primary, saying it was ‘’a great result’’

‘’Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has done enough to endear herself to every household. She will set straight Kogi Central’s journey to greatness and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people’’

The leaders in a statement in Lagos described the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial flag bearer as a visionary leader, bridge builder, stickler for excellence and blessing to Kogi State.

‘’Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is articulate, knowledgeable and gentle. She has contributed so much to elevate the status of Ebiraland’’

The leaders said nothing would stop Akpoti-uduaghan from clinching the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in 2023.

‘’Kogi Central is PDP. Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has crowd-pulling power like no one else in Kogi politics. We strongly believe in her candidacy. We are just waiting for the 2023 elections. We know she will win’’

Signed by the Chairman of Ebira National Forum (ENF), Chief Itopa Jatto, the respectable Ebira leaders stated that the political terrain in Kogi Central Senatorial District has started taking a different shape.

‘’We want to see a more human side to the Government. Kogi Central All Progressives Congress (APC) is already heading for the rocks’’

‘’Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is straightforward and absolutely reliable. We will definitely vote PDP in 2023. She will use the opportunity of going to the Senate to transform Kogi Central, improve the standard of living of the people, engender prosperity and keep the dream of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant alive’’ the statement added.
